When Steve Jobs and Bill Gates invested in modern computer, their aim was to make computer a common household thing and they were able to successfully accomplish this thing. Now what’s the Idea behind cloud computing and why so many major companies investing so heavily into this field of technology? Is it some hype or really something which a common person should look into? Let’s discuss.
What is internet? A web of servers storing information which can be readily make available to one who needs it. Internet has revolutionized the exchange of knowledge and ideas. The way we communicate, the way we know about people from different geographies has completely changed. Now what’s the next step?
It’s been thought that, not every one can afford big, costly computers in order to test any of their revolutionary ideas or business. Why not provide such people a tool which they can readily have just like internet, which they can utilize, without burning a hole in their pocket. Not, every one needs to be a computer expert in order to utilize a specific feature or service related to Computers or IT.
This is what perhaps the reason, which gave birth to Cloud Computing. I am not going to literally delve myself into explaining HISTORY of cloud computing, but this is my take on this.
What is Cloud Computing?
Cloud Computing is the technology by which Compute resources can be made available to you via internet in a pay as you go model. There is almost no upfront payment in utilizing various hosted services. These services which are categorized in several segments e.g. IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service), PaaS (Platform as a Service), SaaS (Software as a Service) etc. are hosted on big servers of vendors like Amazon (AWS), Microsoft (Azure), Google (GCP). They let you use it, you can design a sustainable business model out of it and you only pay for what you use or what you consume.
If you want to use these services, they are accessible via internet. It doesn’t matter whether you have a heavy duty workstation or not, the only thing you need is working computer with sustainable configuration plugged into network. You pay for compute power utilized for a given period of time, storage consumed in form of storing dynamic or static data and cost of data transfer. That’s all in a way where you pay as you go, means if you are utilizing less, you are paying less and vice-versa.
Over the period of time I have gained certain level of knowledge over Cloud Computing, which I am going to share with you.
Cloud Computing, gives you power to think, to imagine, power to create your own technology enabled business, power to spread your business globally in a fraction of time and still remain confident about your budget.
More to come..
