Motivation, Nirvana, Life-Goals…..MOKSHA
…………………..where does the Consciousness play its role?
कर्मणयेवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन।
मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भूर्मा ते सङ्गोऽस्त्वकर्मणि।
Karmanye Vadhikaraste, Ma phaleshou kada chana,
Ma Karma Phala Hetur Bhurmatey Sangostva Akarmani
This verse is from the Bhagavad Gita, where Arjuna was not willing to fight the Epic war of Mahabharat and Krishna explains to him to perform his duties.
—————————————————————————————————————————————–
You have a right to perform your prescribed duty, but you are not entitled to the fruits of actions. Never consider yourself the cause of the results of your activities, and never be attached to not doing your duty.
Become Consciousness about your KARMAS, not about your results or about your desires.
—————————————————————————————————————————————–
Why I am quoting these famous lines today. I watched Elon Musk’s video clip on youtube (You can google this name if you don’t know this name, though the probability may be in decimals :P), where he was saying that if you need the MOTIVATION to do something, it’s better not to do that thing.
Why he said such a thing, because if your motivation is missing probably you don’t love what you are doing.
The Sanskrit shloka that I quoted above says the same thing. I am living in present, what has happened earlier, I can’t revert it back, what is going to happen in future, I can’t predict, but HEY! at present, while I am awake, and while I am conscious I can choose what to do and what not to do, isn’t it?
We lose or gain motivation when we think too much about results, isn’t it?
Then we need some kind of GREED, some kind of ATTACHMENT with expected RESULT to do that job.
BUT THINK FOR A WHILE…..
Today the work I am doing, what is the probability of seeing the result of that thing tomorrow? Maybe the night I am sleeping I may die or something happen because we can only control what WE ARE DOING, RIGHT AT THIS MOMENT. We cannot see future, neither we are assured to wake up the next day or the next moment to see its results and even if we remain alive, not all results come as per our expectations. With a RESULT, all probability exist, it could be AS EXPECTED, ABOVE OUR EXPECTATIONS OR BELOW OUR EXPECTATIONS.
The famous movie “Forrest Gump”, Tom Hanks dialogue, “Life is a BOX of Chocolates, you never know what you get.”
Coming back to shloka, You should do your work, don’t expect results, don’t think you are the reason behind it. If you do any work/job/effort thinking about its results then you will become a possessor of one evil among five evils mentioned by holy Vedas, GREED (other evils are Lust, anger, infatuation, illusion). If you think, you are going to control the outcome of the result, then you will start possessing the second evil ILLUSION, because you will start seeing yourself as the center of all activities, with this other evil also sets in. All these evils will never let you progress on the path of higher truth.
You may ask then why someone will do anything at all if this Shloka is true?
That’s the question you have to ask yourself to actually know what you want to achieve in your life and once you get your answer, you are not going to need motivation.
The Goal of human life is to attain greater consciousness, greater consciousness comes with greater knowledge, knowledge becomes greater when you utilize it to increase common consciousness among people. Common consciousness will increase when you become sensitive about your surroundings, people, animals, nature, resources. When you will become sensitive, you will start caring about a common goal. Then only, you stop thinking about your identity, be it color, religion, regional. You will stop thinking about all divisions/boundaries in-between when you consider entire world species as part of your one big family, that brings me to the second most important phrase written in scriptures:
Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam
Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam is a Sanskrit phrase, which means “the world is one family”
Once you are able to achieve that, you will become like GOD, means, everything you can get, everything will become available to you, but still, you remain unaffected by it.
In YOGA, it’s been said, whatever you are doing, whatever your profession is, it doesn’t matter, if you are able to do that job with both Physical and mental presence, the work where your body and mind becomes one, that particular Job/work will become perfect and that perfectness achieved in anything through the Union of Body and Mind is called YOGA.
You will become perfect at that thing, still, that perfectness will not cultivate arrogance, condescending, pride in you. You will still remain unaffected, untouched by the results of your work. Once you achieve this stage, you will become your controller, no one else will be able to CONTROL you. No, one can make you ANGRY/SAD by mocking you or comparing you with others, no one can make you feel PROUD/HAPPY by praising you, no one will be able to SEDUCE you, by giving favors in exchange. You will become someone who cannot be MANIPULATED.
AND what it will do? It will set PEACE in you and you will become LIBERATED or
you will attain NIRVANA, by just doing your KARMAS. The other name is MOKSHA.
I am also trying to do the same and trying very hard to make myself unaffected from work/jobs/accomplishments/failures. What I am trying to do is JUST DO MY JOB PERFECTLY and ATTAIN AS MUCH KNOWLEDGE AS I CAN and MAKE MY EARTH, THIS UNIVERSE A BETTER PLACE TO BE. I AM NOT PERFECT, but it doesn’t take much to TRY.
