Money is not everything, there are bigger things more important than money.
Yesterday, when I was coming from my sister’s place, who lives near Delhi’s South Delhi area, I saw two cars coming towards me. One car was worth around two crores, and the other was worth approximately four crores. We were also in our family car.
I started thinking that my father worked his entire life, but could never afford such cars, even though he retired from a good officer position. Now, I am earning decently as well, but I am still far from being able to afford such cars. I discussed this with my wife, asking how much money people have, what more I should say, and so on.
We arrived home late and went to sleep immediately as I had a lot of office work the next day. The next day, after getting my son ready, I took out my scooter to drop him towards the school bus. Then, I saw 3-4 sadhus (ascetics) coming towards me in a peaceful manner, singing praises of Lord Narayana. They were walking so gracefully. I stopped them and wanted to give them a ten-rupee note. One sadhu could see, while the rest were blind. The one who could see held the hand of another elderly sadhu, blessed me, and, without taking the money, moved ahead.
I don’t know why my heart became so emotional that tears almost came to my eyes. I felt a great deal of shame for trying to give them that ten-rupee note. Perhaps by giving them the money, I considered myself big. Without taking the money and only giving blessings, not only did he make me feel small, but he also indicated that maybe money isn’t everything in the world.
I felt really good. My mind said, “Keep doing your work with dedication. If the work is good, people will come to you on their own to fulfill your desires. Moreover, if you love your work, maybe you won’t have the desire for anything else.”
Feeling satisfied, my mind thought, “If I share this one more experience of life with you, I’ll write this.”

कल जब मैं अपनी बहिन के यहाँ से आ रहा था, जोकि दिल्ली के साउथ पॉश एरिया के पास रहती है तो मुझे आते हुए दो कार दिखी| एक कार लगभग दो करोड़ की और दूसरी लगभग चार करोड़ की | मैं खुद भी अपने परिवार के साथ कर में ही था | मैं सोचने लगा की मेरे पापा ने अपनी पूरी जिंदगी काम किया, मगर कभी इन जैसी कार तो क्या इनकी एक चौथाई कीमत की कार भी नहीं ले पाए, जबकि वो एक अच्छे अफसर पोस्ट से रिटायर्ड हैं| मैं भी गिरते पड़ते ठीक ठाक कमा ही रहा हूँ, मगर मैं भी ऐसी कार ले पाने की हैसियत से कोसों दूर हूँ | अपनी बीवी से मैं यही बात करता आया बताओ लोगों के पास कितना पैसा है, मुझे और मेहनत करनी चाहिए, वगैरह वगैरह |
घर आते आते लेट हो गया था तो आते ही सो गया, अगले दिन ऑफिस का भी काफी काम था | अगले दिन उठा अपने बेटे को तैयार किया और स्कूल की बस की तरफ छोड़ने के लिए स्कूटी निकाली , तभी गली में देखा की ३-४ साधू वेश धारी लोग बड़े अच्छे से श्रीमन नारायण गाते हुए आ रहे हैं |
वो लोग इतने अच्छे से गा रहे थे , रास्ते में रुक कर मैंने उन्हें एक दस रुपए का नोट देना चाहा | उनमे से एक साधू देख सकता था बाकि सब अंधे थे, जो साधू देख सकता था उसने एक दुसरे बुजुर्ग साधू का हाथ पकड़ मेरे और आगे स्कूटी पर खड़े मेरे बेटे के सर पर फिराया और पैसे के लिए मना करके आगे बढ़ गए | पता नहीं क्यों मन इतना भाव विभोर हो गया की लगभग आँखों में आंसू ही आ गए |
उस दस के नोट को पकडे मुझे बड़ी शर्म सी आयी, शायद उन्हें ये पैसे देकर मैं अपने आप को बहुत बड़ा समझता, लेकिन उन्होंने आशीर्वाद देकर और मुझसे नोट न लेकर ना केवल मुझे छोटा बताया बल्कि ये भी बताया की शायद दुनिया में सब कुछ पैसा भी नहीं है | हमारी गली में उनका अच्छा भजन सुनकर काफी लोग उनके पास खुद गए उन्हें कुछ देने मगर उन्होंने किसी से कुछ नहीं लिया| बस मजे से हरी धुन गाते रहे |
मन को बहुत अच्छा लगा , मन ने कहा मन लगा कर अपना काम करते रहो , काम अच्छा होता है तो लोग खुद आ जाते हैं चल कर तुम्हारी इच्छा पूरी करने, बाकि अगर तुम्हे अगर अपने काम से प्यार होगा तो शायद किसी और चीज की इच्छा भी नहीं रहेगी.
